Why Cant I Get To Sleep
We all have periods when no matter how tired we Are, we just simply cannot sleep.
But Why Does This Happen
It is suggested that at least 25% of adults suffer from some form on insomnia, there could be several reasons why you are one of them:
Over Active Mind
Stress, or a problem at work or home could subconsciously be playing on your mind, is so
difficult for some of us to ‘switch off’ after a long and busy day, and our minds keep going over the same problem time and time again, refusing to allow us to switch off and relax.
With stress and worry it is important to talk about your concerns and also take steps to try and relax, take a long warm bath just before bedtime, try yoga, or any other activity that will relax and calm your mind and body.
Physical Ailments And Pain
Certain pains such as back ache, and arthritis can often keep you awake, if this continues, you should speak to your doctor to try and cure or at least treat the cause of the pain
Menopause
Many women as they go into the menopause have trouble sleeping, one of the main causes is the hot sweats that are caused by the changing hormone levels, to try and combat this, try to keep the room cool, if you wear night clothes, keep them lightweight, and if symptoms continue, speak to your GP or check out various forms of menopause treatments online.
Sleeping Conditions
Too many things can effect our sleep patterns and it is crucial to address any issues, being too hot or cold for instance can easily be cured by either a fan or thicker duvet, if its noisy, try ear plugs, if the room is too bright, buy blackout blinds.
Stimulants
Coffee (or rather the caffeine in it) is notorious for keeping you awake, no matter how much you love this drink, you should really avoid drinking it for 4 – 5 hours before you retire to bed, this will give the caffeine time to disperse. The same applies to energy drinks and any other product containing caffeine or similar stimulants.
Sleeping is all about state of mind and the conditions around you, if you can try and balance these to leave you relaxed at bed time, you should soon be able to get a good nights sleep.
